Eleven Things To Do With Old Windows

Windows Week is coming to an end already.  It went by fast!  I sure had fun looking at all the pretty houses, the old plantation, and the history we read about along the way. Salvage is a hot decorating trend, and there are lots of artistic and useful ways to use old windows around your home and garden.  Today, I’ve gathered some ideas for you from some inspiring websites for an old window you may have, or may come across in your junkin excursions.

If you’d like to “pin” this collective article for future reference, there’s a Pinterest button at the very end…but…

If you want to “pin” any of these individual ideas to Pinterest, please go to the originating website, highlighted in blue under the image, and pin from the original source.  Thank you!

I’m feeling inspired, how about you?  If only I had a large pile of old windows, and lots of free time on my hands!  I do have one window which my father actually built, and plans for that soon to come.

Have you created anything fabulous with an old window?  Did you paint it to look new, or do you look like the chippy, weathered look?

Welcome to those of you joining from any of these fine link-ups! I hope you’ll stick around a while!

  1. Another great post! This has been such a fun week on WCIJ! I have a couple of stained glass windows I have hung for decoration, but you have really expanded the ideas for regular paned windows. I really like the picture frame idea and jewelry display. Thank you for sharing these ideas. I’ll look at paned windows differently when I hit antique stores and garage sales!! Have a great week, Dawn. Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

  2. Dawn….this series on fenestration has been so interesting I’ve enjoyed each post this week! I have a few old windows put away….now I might actually do something with them! Thanks for the ideas they did inspire me! Have a great weekend….hope you’re having nice weather in your part of the country 🙂

  3. I love these ideas, my favorite is the picture frame. But all of them are so unique and creative! Thanks for stopping by my blog yesterday! Happy Weekend!

  4. Hey Dawn,
I will have to go back through this week’s posts…We own a window and door company and there are always spare windows lying around. My husband is convinced they are good for nothing but the local charity donations…BUT…maybe I can find something here to convince him otherwise! LOL and I have a barn full of old windows…dreaming of a oneday greenhouse built from old windows.. great post..
    Love, Mona

  5. Wow,I totally want to do that green house, gorgeous and the looks is so unique….want! Thanks for linking up today on Travel Photo Mondays

  6. Great series and great ideas. I bought an old, green french door last fall and have been planning on using it to “frame” photos of my kids. It’s taking me forever to clean the glass, though! I’m also working on my mantle right now and I’m trying to make a french door work (it’s sitting on the mantle, on its side)–we’ll see!

  7. Love this post – what great ideas for old windows. I have a few stashed in the garage. Will have to do something. Thanks so much.
    Have a great week.

  8. I love all of these ideas! I picked up a few old windows last fall as they were being taken out of the house and put out to the garbage!Didn’t know what I would do with them then but this gives me so many options.

  9. So many great ideas! I love old windows and have several that I’ve used from time to time in the house. Thanks so much for sharing at Amaze Me Monday…
    Blessings,
    Cindy

  10. Dawn, I love old windows and use them all the time in my décor. I have already asked hubby to make me a little green house box with one of mine. Loved the one from B. H. and Gardens! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann

  11. I made a necklace holder with an old window frame. Left the old color and added wire to back and nails to hang the necklaces. Looks like art and function.
